Understanding Order Status

Listed below are the transition states that a standard order goes through from creation to transmission:

  1. When you create a standard order, it is stored in the system with a status of "Entered".
  2. When you select an order by clicking the check box next to it and click the Send button, this changes the order(s) status from "Entered" to "Ready to Transmit". (You may unselect an order by clicking the same box).
  3. When the order is sent to the lab, its order status changes to "Transmitted".

Listed below are the various transition states that a PSC order goes through from creation to transmission:

  1. When you create a PSC order it is stored in the system with a status of "Inactive".
  2. Once you receive the patient's specimen, you activate the order by clicking the Activate button. This changes the order status from "Inactive" to "Entered". Thereafter, the order is treated as a standard order.
  3. When you select an order by clicking the check box next to it and click the Send button, this changes the order(s) status from "Entered" to "Ready to Transmit". (You may unselect an order by clicking the same box).
  4. When the order is sent to the lab, its order status changes to "Transmitted".

Below is a listing of all the possible order states and their meaning listed in alphabetical order.

If an Error Status Occurs

If when the courier arrives to pickup the specimens you discover one of the orders has an "Error" status, you have the option of retyping the information on a new order or printing the order and including the hard copy in the box with the specimens and the Manifest. The lab will enter the order manually.

To Send Orders

Once you have a group of orders ready to be sent to a lab for processing, proceed as follows:

  1. Using the Access Orders menu option, retrieve all the orders that have an "Entered" status.
  2. When the list of orders appears, select the ones you want to send by clicking the check box next to the order(s) you want to send. (You may unselect an order by clicking the same box).
  3. Click the Send button to send the selected orders.

If you want to send all the orders displayed, click Send All. It is not necessary to select any orders when you click Send All because all the orders that appear on the list are sent.

The Send and Send All buttons are only enabled when you select orders with an "Entered" status. This prevents you from sending an order that is incomplete or has an error. It also prevents you from re-sending a previously transmitted order.

Clinician looks for those orders with a "Ready to Transmit" status and sends them to the appropriate lab. Once the orders are sent to the lab, their status changes to "Transmitted".
