ABN from an Order

When you create an order for a patient with Medicare coverage containing test(s) that are not considered medically necessary, Clinician asks a series of questions. Medicare guidelines are determined and published by the Medicare payer while the testing laboratory supplies the data required to provide this service.

If you select one of those tests when creating an order, the following screen appears:

  1. If you click No, you will return to the previous window where you can modify your test or ICD9 code choices.

If you click Yes, Step 2 appears:

  1. Click Cancel at any time in this sequence, to return to the previous window.

If you answer No, the next question appears:  "Is the patient here to sign an ABN form?"

If you answer No, Step 3 appears:

  1. If you answer No to the last question and click OK, the following screen appears:

When you click  OK, an electronic requisition form appears with the ABN form on the bottom.

If you answer Yes to the last question and click OK, you will return to the previous window where you can modify your test or ICD9 code choices.

  1. When the order form appears on the screen, click the Print button. The order form prints along with the ABN form, indicating which test(s) require an ABN.

If an ABN form is included in the order the patient must sign on the line provided at the bottom of the form.
